The Home Safety & Livability Assessment is a private-pay, professional environmental and functional livability review designed to identify conditions within a home that may affect safe independent living and aging in place.
This assessment focuses on risk identification, helping individuals and families understand environmental factors that may contribute to falls, safety concerns, or functional barriers in daily living — and to plan thoughtfully before a crisis occurs.
This assessment is commonly requested by:
• Older adults planning for aging in place
• Families supporting independent living at home
• Adult children assisting from a distance
• Individuals experiencing changes in mobility or daily function
• Caregivers seeking clarity around home safety
• Realtors working with older housing stock or senior transitions
Each Home Safety & Livability Assessment provides a structured review of environmental conditions related to:
• Fall risk factors
• Egress and general safety considerations
• Observable environmental safety conditions
• Accessibility barriers
• Navigation through daily-use spaces
• Functional challenges related to activities of daily living (ADLs)
• Environmental factors impacting independent living
• Practical considerations for aging in place
• Identification of conditions that may affect safety or function over time
Findings are summarized in clear, plain language, with prioritized observations to support informed planning and decision-making.
Assessments may be conducted:
• As a combined review, incorporating structural observation with public-health-informed environmental and functional livability considerations
• Or as a focused environmental and functional assessment, depending on the needs of the home
